Track and Field

Phoenix High School has a variety of sports offered to the students and Track has to be one of the most popular. Track is not simply running, there is a multitude of different activities within the sport which include; long jump, disk throw, hurdles, sprints, long distance, and shot put. Every year we have students sign up for track ready to break records and their opponent’s spirits.

This year was no exception, our track team, which has been one of the largest turnouts in recent history, has been out working hard to show off what Phoenix High School is made of! Our coaches, Mr. McAndrews, Mr. Gullo, and Mr. Cornet who are also teachers here, have been the ones pushing Phoenix’s athletes to success.

However many newcomers look up to the veterans of the Track team such as Nathan Watt, a senior with four years of track under his belt, who has tried almost every event in the track world.  Watt’s advice to “anyone not in a spring sport, I would strongly encourage you to give track a try. With seventeen different events, there is bound to be something you will like.” From everyone here at PHS, we wish track and field the best of luck!
