Bees buzzing, sun shining and the water calling; students are almost at the end of another successful school year. It was a long but very successful year. It may have been stressful and felt like it would never end, but now we are at the end and we can celebrate. Throughout the year we had sports teams who played well, fun filled spirit weeks, and fantastic dances. Shall we blast to the past and revisit the 2017-2018 school year?

Let’s enter a time machine and rewind to the fall. First day of school, new freshman scared and excited, seniors last and anticipated year, sophomores and juniors lost in the mix. Football, volleyball, soccer, cheer and cross country, a blur of talent. Our pirate teams continually battling for the win. Actors and actresses working their theatrical magic in Arsenic and Old Lace. Clubs gathering new members and students looking to belong. First dance of the year is thrilling to the freshman; Truly a Night to Remember. Homecoming court consisting of Brooke Kentner (queen) and JT Womelsdorf (king). On Halloween we had tons of students (and teachers) who dressed up, and many costumes to remember.

Now to take a quick look on winter. Our pirate girls and boys basketball fought hard all season, our wrestlers were fierce, and the swim team kept on swimming. Our winter cheer helped us stay spirited and the competition team performed at their highest. We had lots of participants in winter spirit week which consisted of fuzzy/christmas socks, santa’s workshop, pajama day, candy cane day, santa hat/white out day, and ugly sweater day. Winter formal, “It was lit” said Jonathan Halligan. The dance was put on by Deca and Mr. Carvalho said that they “try to make the dance bigger and better every year”.  During the course of winter math team competed, brain bowl was brainy, and FFA wrapped gifts for children.

Spring was packed full of achievements. Our FFA  food scientists team were state champions and will head off to nationals in the fall. Brain Bowl “Competed well against the big schools” (Mr. Gullo). Thoroughly Modern Millie, put on by our theater lovers, was a huge hit! They performed a musical with enjoyment and skill. Deca performed to there highest ability. After a vicious campaign, Brandon Morrison won ASB president with Karli Farrimond as vice president and Devinajiah Jefferson as secretary. Garden Club threw a bang of a party and did a fantastic job transforming our garden. Outdoor club finished off the year with a final, fun filled hike. Speech and debate sent 9 students to state. Our winning queen and king for prom themed Casablanca where Tiffany Lee and Abraham Martinez. In sports news our pirates represented! Track and field sent 7 students to states and two placed at state. Boys and girls golf learned a ton and putted well. Varsity baseball was sent to the playoffs. Softball JV and Varsity fought hard. Girls tennis sent 2 girls to main draw. In equestrian our two pirates qualified for state. Our softball girls made memories that will be looked back on forever.

Overall the year of 2017-18 at Phoenix High school has been a good one. Lots of memories where made, we had an abundance of wins, and learned a great deal. Our freshman survived their first year of high school, seniors made it to the end and graduated, they are now entering the big wide world, the sophomores are moving up in the food chain, and Juniors are preparing to enter there senior year.  Well done and congratulations to all Phoenix High school students and have a wonderful summer.
