The girls have had a rough season. Although not enough girls tried out to complete two strong teams, they pulled it together with eighteen girls to form our Lady Pirates soccer team. Only six of those girls have played at a varsity level, therefore most of the season they have been teaching and learning all together. Getting to know each other and having good chemistry is a huge part of a team and these girls are doing just fine.
With a record of 1-6-1, the girls still thrived and fought hard against North Valley on Thursday, October 15th. North Valley remains one of the strongest teams in the league and our girls did an amazing job fighting hard against the Knights, but fell in a score of 1-7.
On Monday, October 5th, the girls played home against Henley, sadly falling with the score of 0-6, but that doesn’t break our girls’ spirits. Thursday, October 8th, the girls faced Klamath and played like they haven’t played before. Even though two of the teammates were out due to injuries, the team still continued to play hard. Ending the game with a score of 0-6 the girls still didn’t give up. Facing the Hidden Valley Mustangs on Monday, October 12th, the girls played at home, finishing the game with a score of 1-4.
During the season, the girls have faced tough teams, and no matter what the ending score is, they know they fought hard and played a good game. Team captain Guillermina Rodriguez comments, “Even though we had a rough season with barely any wins, it was a good experience because we represented the Phoenix community with pride.”
Our Lady Pirates will host their senior night at Colver Field on Monday Oct.19th. The ladies have a total of five seniors this year and are excited to share a surprise to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Come out to support our Pirates as they face Mazama once again, and this time our ladies are after the win.
