There have been some new clubs added at Phoenix High School that should be recognized.  The new clubs are Acapella Club, Ukulele Club, Gamer’s Club, Code Club, The Breakfast Club, Photography Club, Craft Club, and the Harry Potter Club.

There is wide variety of clubs here at PHS, and with these new additions to the list, the students have more choices of fun and interesting groups to join. The new clubs here are unique in their own ways.

We asked Miss Bryan some question about Craft Club.

“What is your club about? Why did you decide to make that club?”

“Crafter’s Club is for creative people who enjoy making things from different mediums–paper, beads, yarn, cloth, etc. The club is inspired by a love of creating beautiful projects, as well as a desire to promote arts and skills that are useful and have a rich history, like sewing or knitting, but are no longer taught in a mainstream way.”

We also asked the sponsor of the Gamer Club (Mr.Shunk) some questions and this was his response: “The idea was to have a place where a community of gamer’s could get together, enjoy gaming, and maybe make some new friends. Emilio Mojarro, the one who created the club, took some strong initiative and put in some solid effort to get it up and running. Gamer’s Club is a place for students to enjoy gaming.  We’ll talk about games, systems, new releases, discuss different genres of games, and play games together.  The goal is that every other Friday when we meet we will be playing games.” He wanted us to include this also: “To be on our text reminder list, please text @phsgamers to 81010”

The Harry Potter Club was created by Mollie Bach because she loves Harry Potter and wants other people to come together and talk about the stories. They meet every Thursdays at lunch.

Photography Club is still trying to get things going. Britney Travis is trying help with the club this year. Once they get a group of students, then they can start looking for some activities to do.

Acapella choir is a singing group that has no instruments involved. If you have never sung in a choir and want to sing, then join this one. Jesse and Isaac, the students running it, will help you find your range when singing. They meet every Wednesday at lunch.

The Ukulele Club was created to teach students and even staff how to play the ukulele. Taran McGuire, the one who created this club, thinks that it’s a cool instrument to learn. The purpose of this club is to create an environment where people can learn or jam on the ukulele and grow together as a community.

Impact Club is discovering more about God and his son Jesus from the Bible and how they want to give us hope and a future and help us through life, supporting and encouraging each other, being a positive influence in our world. They meet on Thursdays at lunch in Mrs. Hanson’s room, #S205.

Bowling Club gives people the opportunity to hang out and go bowling with friends. They heard about a past bowling team and wanted to reestablish one. This is the first step to doing so. If you’re interested in learning more, Tyler Hein and Wade Wagner are spearheading this movement.

Code Club is about teaching kids how to use tech efficiently by using the school’s resources. The club has special programs and creators such as Linux windows and operating system. We have different script writing programs like Python, Batch, and Bash. They also show kids how to take a computer apart and tell them what each part does. Afterward they figure out how to put it back together. Code Club meets every day at lunch.

There was one club we couldn’t get any information from: The Breakfast Club. We tried to contact them but couldn’t get an email in response.
