Come out and support our hard working students here at Phoenix High. The FFA and greenhouse students are a huge part of the Phoenix community, this year the students will have their annual Plant Sale. The plant sale is a fundraiser that has been around for fifteen years! All the students’ plants are grown and planted by the students who are enrolled in the Agriculture class or Greenhouse class. All the proceeds will be going towards buying plants, soil, and containers for the next year’s group of students. Extra money gets saved for greenhouse repairs.

Ms. Walkup, our FFA Instructor and Agriculture Teacher here at phoenix coordinate the event and the greenhouse class puts it together to make it happen. The FFA students help prepare during their own time and will also be there during the event to help the locals who are interested. As community members it is our job to communicate and get to know the students and people around us. At the sale one could find a variety of hanging baskets, bedding annuals and perennials, unique mixed containers, and special student projects.

Not only will there be a plant sale held here at Phoenix but the FFA students get their moment to shine during their Award banquet. The award banquet is a celebration of accomplishments. All of the members give awards to other members of the chapter and the entire meeting is conducted by the students. We also say goodbye to the seniors with a special recognition, program completer cords, and scholarships. We serve a free dinner so all family and friends can come celebrate the year of accomplishments with the FFA members.

Students complete applications and an interview for different award areas. The proficiency award areas are based on the students Supervised Agricultural Experiences such as working for an agriculture business, raising animals, selling products at a farmer’s market, and much more. Other areas students can get awards for is scholastic achievement, program completer, and scholarships. We also give out grade level specific awards such as Star Greenhand (Freshmen), Outstanding (Sophomore), Excellent Achiever (Junior), and Star Farmer (Senior). Our top award is given for Most Active member. There will be over 20 awards given and installing 6 new officers for next year’s team.
