The week of October 5th to the 8th was PHS Homecoming spirit week. Students were able to show off their spirit with the themes of each day to gain spirit points. Students from each grade participated in hopes of earning the highest points for a field day at the end of the school year. To start off, Monday was pajama and sportswear day. Tuesday was twin and hippie day. Wednesday was flannel and wacky day. Thursday was school colors and toga day. Each grade had a specific color: Freshman wore red, Sophomores wore white, Juniors wore blue, and especially but not lastly, the Seniors wore togas.

Powder-puff is one of the many homecoming events that allows the ladies from the Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes to participate in activities to gain spirit points for their class. Leadership makes sign-up sheets and recruits the refs for the event. Juniors played the Freshman in the first game, which they dominated twenty-two to zero. The second game was played by the Seniors and Sophomores and the Seniors took the win fourteen to six. The final game between the Juniors and Seniors was close, but Seniors took it with a score of six to zero.

Movie Night is another event hosted by the leadership club. They played the film When the Game Stands Tall in the big gym. The entrance was free and around thirty students showed up. Carina Carrera, a leadership officer, who attended movie night said she thought “movie night was a success and we made bank on our concessions.”

He-Man Volleyball is another one of the many events that happened during our spirit week at Phoenix High School. Usually the Sophomores play the Seniors and the Juniors play the Freshmen. This year, the Seniors played against the Sophomores, losing a close battle, but keeping their heads up. Then, the Juniors dominated the Freshmen. Finally, the last battle of the day was fought: Juniors vs. Sophomores! It was a long, intense game, but the Juniors took it, making it their second year as champions of the He-man Volleyball.

Everyone who attended the homecoming parade last Wednesday can agree that it was a huge success! There were so many wonderful floats, performances and the atmosphere was incredible. The art class splashed vibrant colors all over their clothes, while the leadership club paraded their beautiful pirate ship float. Viewers could clearly tell that everybody present was enjoying the festivities and having a good time. The idea of bringing back the homecoming parade to PHS was first brought forward by a wonderful lady named Breeze Chapman who was last year’s leadership advisor. Everyone loved the idea and along with the aid of many, the leadership class was able to successfully reintroduce the parade to PHS tradition once again.
