On December 4, the Pirates wrestled all day against the Eagle Point Eagles and the Ashland Grizzlies. Our team participated in 21 matches throughout the day. The team of 26 was able to achieve a team score of 18, tying with the Grizzlies, but unfortunately lost to the Eagles, even though they achieved a team score of 24.

When the team was fighting against the Grizzlies, Ezra DeLuca earned six points for the team. Then Jackie Hawkins collected another 6 points. Finally, Brandon Brumble tied up the match, ending the battle between the Pirates and the Grizzlies with a score of 18 to 18.

Then the team battled the Eagles. Unfortunately, the Pirates lost to Eagle Point with a team score of 24 to 51. After a series of loses, Cedar King earned three points over Michael Hammond. Following him, Jessi Daniels also attained six more points for the team. Later, Garrett Truex and Justin Knight both won their matches, bringing in a combined total of nine points.

The following weekend, the team participated in the Army Strong Coast Classic in California. There, Dalton Samis, Jessi Daniels, Cedar King, Mark McAllister, William Frazee, Justin Knight, Trace Vega, and Jack Furlong all won at least one of their matches.

The team’s next game is on December 18 and 19 in Grants Pass for the Winter Kickoff of 2015! Come support our Pirates!

At the beginning of the month, the Phoenix Swim team had a meet on Saturday, December 12 at the Medford YMCA. The girls and boys teams both performed very well and placed highly in the team scores.

The girls team got third place with a score of 72 and the boys team won first place with a score of 103. The winners for the double event were Emily Samudio with the 100 Fly and 500 Free and Lauren Speaks with the 100 Free. Students also competed in additional events. Alec Shepherd (200 Free), Tiona Hurd (50 Free), Ethan Shepherd (50 Free), and Taylor Brown (500 Free) each won their individual events.

Their next meet is this Saturday and Sunday in Newport. We know that the Phoenix High swim team will continue to dive into victory. Remember to congratulate  these hard-working athletes as you see them in the halls.
