The clocks are ticking, the tension is rising, and our athletes are dominating. This year has been exciting for the spring sports. Many teams from Phoenix High School went to state including baseball, girls golf, and boys and girls track and field. During baseball season, the team had an impressive win rate of 57% and ended in a winning streak of three games against Klamath Union. In girls golf, they landed in second place, giving them the opportunity to go to state! Finally, for the track and field team, two boys and the whole girls team qualified for state.

After their league games, the baseball team started their playoff game against Cottage Grove. What seemed like a hopeless game suddenly turned into huge comeback from 0-7 to 8-7 after five rotations. Lastly, they played against La Grande and the results were 10-3, with La Grande over Phoenix. After trying hard, the pirates fell gracefully and were humble in their lose. The team was overall happy with their season of victories.

Next, the girls golf team traveled to Bandon to compete in regionals. The phoenix girls won second place with a total score of 423. A week later they went to state in Corvallis at the Trysting Trees Golf Course and scored 447. Unfortunately, they fell to last place but Maricela Alverado Powers amazingly placed nineteenth out of forty-nine girls.

Finally, the track and field team did very well before they went to state. Both Robby Vos and Parker Cook qualified individually in the 3000 meters event where Vos got a 9:30.07 and Cook got a 9:33.21. The girls team landed in first place out of 6 and got a score of 153.5. At state, Danielle Jantzer amazingly landed in first place for both the 800 and 1500 meter. Additionally, they were in second place out of 32 teams having a total score of 48. Vos got fifth place out of fourteen in the 1500 meter and fourth out of fourteen in the 3000 meter. Cook, who also participated in the 3000 meter got eighth place. Fantastic job track team!

Ending off on a high note, this year has been a great success for the spring sports of Phoenix High School. Each athlete worked very hard all season long to pass their records or beat an opponent. They tried their best to make it to state, not one gave up and lost hope. Everybody from Phoenix congratulates these teams for doing great this year and hopes they can do even better next time!
