The volleyball program this year has had huge improvements from past years.  The Phoenix Pirates have a JV2, JV1 and Varsity team this year. The head coach for JV2 is Renee Hanson, she is a teacher here at Phoenix high school. Hanson teaches French I through French IV. The JV1 head coach is Jessica Flores, she also teaches here at Phoenix high school. Flores teaches Geometry, Algebra and Health I. The head coach for varsity this year is Samantha Greenlee, she doesn’t teach here at our highschool but comes after school for practice. Samantha Greenlee said that the attitude of the team this year has improved. She said something that stuck out a lot was, “The team has found their love of the game again. And that is our focus.”

Kassidy Calhoun is an outstanding all around player and dominant outside hitter. Katelynn Hanson is the middle blocker and is great at her position. Abigale George compliments the team with a killer jump serve. Ana Macias-Montoya and Sophia Tringolo have had really good sets this season. The coaches mentioned they wanted to improve for next year on the level of play. They want the team to be ready to score consistently and create long scoring runs even after they score initial points. This season for volleyball was a very strong season and the team made dramatic improvements over the season.

The Volleyball team has played a total of 19 games since August 25th through October 18th. The team did really good at the Hidden Valley Tournament. During a game against North Valley high school, the Varsity team lost the 1st game with a score of  0 sets to 2. Phoenix, then beat Illinois Valley with a clean victory of 2 sets to 0. Phoenix played against Riddle with a score of 2 sets to 0! The girls are on a roll. Last game of the North Valley tournament against Gold Beach was a close game but the girls pulled out with 2 sets to 1! A really good games Phoenix played was against Mazama. The volleyball team played against Mazama twice and had won both games with 3 sets to 0. The record for varsity is 5-11. The Varsity game on october 13th was a close game against North Valley with the team falling by 1 set to 3. Come support the Girls last game tomorrow, Tuesday Oct 18th at Henley High School!
