PHS Shoots and Scores with the Boys Basketball

Looking back at the past basketball seasons, the PHS boys have struggled to find success. This year, with new first year coaches they hope to achieve the victories they have worked hard for. Throughout the season so far, the boys have played hard, but have fallen short of victory. Starting on the second of December, the boys kicked off their season with games against eagle point. Though they didn’t win, the boys have tried their best.

I had the opportunity to sit down and talk about this current seasons misfortune with Mr. Buckley, the JV coach. “Were not satisfied with the results we’ve been earning but we are working hard to change that” Mr.Buckley said. Though slightly discouraged, the boys are excited to get back on the court and win the upcoming games. Compared to last season, there have been many improvements with teamwork and being able to run the plays needed in order to win. “It was a fairly smooth transition when we learned that new coaches were in place for our season” said  Kallen Peterson, a player on the JV team. When asked how he felt about the recent losses he was quick to say that though it sucks “we are pirates, and win or lose we have each others back.”

So far in the season, the PHS varsity basketball team has won one game against lost river high school and have lost all others. Despite the hardship they’ve undertaken, the team continues to work hard and play to the best of their ability. Some schools the team has recently played include Mazama which ended with a score of 35-60, Henley, and North Valley. However just because the team lost the previous games doesn’t mean they can’t make a come back with the upcoming 7 games. The 7 schools that are lined up are Klamath Union, Hidden Valley, North Valley, Henley, Mazama, And lastly Klamath Union again. Here are some of the dates;

On January 27th, this Friday, Klamath Union comes to PHS. Then on the 3rd of February, the teams travel to grants pass to play against hidden valley, home of the Mustangs. Next the team stays home to take on the North Valley Knights on February 7th. Another home game follows shortly after with PHS facing off against Henley on the 10th. Finally, the teams will travel to Mazama High school in Klamath Falls on the 14th, then to Klamath Union on the 17th for their final games. Be sure to attend the home and away games! Come out and show your pirate pride by supporting our teams!

Though only one game was won, the boy’s persistence, teamwork, and hard work has shown through. All boys are looking forward to playing in their final games and finishing out their season strong.
