Did you know only 65% of people know how to swim? Do you know how? Well even if you don’t, joining swim would be a great and fun way to find out. This winter, the swimmers here at PHS are excited to strap on their goggles and dive right into breaking records and making memories. Swimming season always attracts a lot of students every year. Being a part of the swim team is a awesome way to get or stay in shape, meet new people, and have a great time.

On the swim team, it isn’t so much about winning for your school or team, but about winning for yourself. Doing better than you did last practice or last meet. This is probably the  hardest task to undertake, but the best motivation. Joining swim is easy the part, but you have to be ready to work hard, swim hard, and play hard. Jim Heath, the swim coach here at PHS is always ready to train experienced and inexperienced swimmers.

So far there have been two swim meets at the start of the season. The first one was on December 3rd, at the Medford YMCA from 11-3. Next, PHS swimming competed at a 10 team tournament at the Medford YMCA on December 10th, from 11-3. On the girls side our team finished in 10th place and on the boys side PHS finished 4th overall. The boys were paced by Alec Sheppard who won both the 200 Free and 500 Free. Great job pirate swimming!

Since swim season has just started, there are a lot of upcoming meets to go to. Next meet is on December 16th at the Opponent-TBA, the meet starts at 12:30. Then on January 7th in grants pass, at the YMCA, at 10:00. Next is a meet on January 14th in klamath falls, at 10:00.

Then On January 21st in Grants pass again at the YMCA, at 10:00. On January 28th in north bend at 10:00. Another one is on February 10th-11th for district championships in North bend. On the 17th-18th of February, the swim team travel to Mt Hood Community College for the state swimming championships.

So from everyone here in the digital journalism department we wish all on the PHS swim team a good season, and a good swim!
