Phoenix High School is home to a variety of incredible athletes who work hard to show what they’re made of. Emma Truex, a freshman wrestler here at PHS, has shown us what hard work and dedication can get you, a state championship. She tells us that she is “looking to get three more state titles to be the first four time at Phoenix for wrestling and looking to place at Reno Worlds”. Emma was inspired by seeing her older brother Garrett Truex wrestle and decided to join the sport and is now on her 10th season of wrestling. She is one of the few girls that wrestle here at PHS but has seen the sport grow bigger and is excited that more girls are joining each year. Emma’s journey continues as she keeps practicing and working hard to secure more state championships.

How long have you been wrestling?

This is her 10th season wrestling.

What made you want to wrestle?

Seeing her older brother in the sport made her want to wrestle.

What is it like being one of the few girls that wrestle?

Its cool seeing the sport grow with more girls joining.

After winning state champ as a freshman, what plans do you have for the long years?

She’s hoping to win three more state titles to be the first four time champ in wrestling here at PHS and hopes to place at Reno Worlds.

Congrats on the state championship Emma! All of us here at PHS wish you good luck on the rest of your seasons!
