Phoenix cross country team goes to Skyline Conference Championships!

The Phoenix Cross Country team drove to the Jackson County Expo in Central Point on October 21st for the Skyline Conference Championships. The teams were able to race on a sunny day, competing in the men’s 5,000 meter run and the women’s 5,000 meter run.

As a matter of fact, in the official team scores, Phoenix placed 1st in the men’s varsity and JV 5,000 meter run and 1st in the women’s varsity 5,000 meter run. Likewise, in the women’s JV 5,000, Phoenix placed 2nd in the official team scores. With these scores, the teams qualify for the State Championships.

First, in the men’s varsity team, Robert Vos placed 1st and Jacob Bergren finished 2nd in their races. Vos led by 25 seconds, finishing with a time of 16:20.8 seconds and Bergren had a time of 16:45.6. Robert Vos almost set a new school record in the 5,000 which is currently held by Elliott Jantzer from 2007, the time being 15:33 seconds.

Then our team had a streak of finishes with Leif Amundsen having a time of 16:54.6 seconds (5th place), Nathan Watt (6th place), Parker Cook (7th place), and Drake Knowles 17:30.4 (8th place).

In similar manner, the Varsity women’s team also placed high in rank. Danielle Jantzer placed 2nd with a time of 18:58.8 seconds. Then Emma Amundsen had a time of 19:04.0 seconds, finishing 3rd, while Shayla Potratz finished 5th with 20:01.9 seconds.

Also, in our women’s JV team 5,000 meter run, Angel Teeple placed 4th with a time of 23:05.6, Jasmine Christian finished 6th and Jestyna Mosttler placed 8th. Additionally,  Ruby Peral-Covarrubias finished 11th and Madelyn Blundell placed 12th.

Not to mention, the men’s JV team had multiple Phoenix team members finish on top. Cody Gutridge finished 1st with a time of 19:06.1 seconds. Likewise, Ezra Deluca placed 2nd with a time of 19:16.3 seconds. In 3rd place, Brigham Blundell and in 4th place Aaron Nash. Lucas Stella finished 5th with 20:14.1.

On Saturday the 31st, the Phoenix cross country teams will be competing in the OSAA State Championships in Eugene.
