The boys’ soccer team started their season off with a loss on August 26th by a score of 3-5 against North Bend. Though, the boys soon bounced back with a score of 6-0, winning against Cottage Grove on September 6th  another loss followed with a 2-3 win against Brookings Harbor on September 13th. The next five games were all wins putting the pirate boys in good spirits all around.

I got a chance to sit down with some players and talked about their season and team. Zac Castillo, Luis Ascencion, and Alex Martines were happy to answer my questions. “We work well together” Zac said, Alex and Luis agreed. Though, Luis added “but we need better communication.” The guys told me that the team is very open and able to talk about what they are doing right and wrong. They also stated that they may argue sometimes, but in the end they always “play hard.” The soccer players also mentioned because they work so well together, it will be a sad goodbye to the seniors, even though any of the under classmen are more than capable to be team captains because the majority of the captains are Seniors.

The last two upcoming games are on October 17th, and October 20th.  Come support our pirate boys. Let’s show some spirit by being there! The team overall had an outstanding season of improvements and an awesome streak of wins.

Moving on to girls’ soccer, they started their season with a win! A 10-0 victory against Marshfield, however they then lost a series of 5 games after that. They then tied with a score of 2-2 against the school Mazama. Next they lost both games against Klamath and Hidden Valley. Though taking these tough loses the girls have made so many great memories and are excited for next season.

I got a chance to talk to one of the players on the team, Astrid Onesto , and I asked her how she feels about the team’s  performance so far in the season.  “The team’s Chemistry is better” she states, then adding that they have a lot of great new players this year. The majority of the new players are freshman and sophomores, but juniors reside as captains and lead the team in experience. A game Astrid mentions playing hard with her team is when the faced off with Mazama and tied.

A player’s name that came up during my chat with Astrid was Emonie Snowden, this year is her first year playing, and already plays as a swinger for varsity. “My goal for this season is to be a better ball player” Emonie told me during our chat. She told me that “ JV has won every game,”  which is awesome for pirate girls! There are three games left, come support our pirate girls on September 13th, 17th, and 20th. Over all the girls soccer season has been outstanding in improving scores, teamwork, and spirit.
