Mrs. Sandlin is a new teacher here at Phoenix High School and she helps teach Special Education students. First, lets understand what Special Education classes are and who they are for. Special Education Programs are designed for those students who are mentally, physically or socially in need of assistance. Special Education students are capable of being just as successful as any other student.

Due to these special requirements their needs can’t be met in a traditional classroom environment. Special education classes help meet the needs of certain students. This program has no cost to the family and is available until the child reaches 21 years of age.

There are 13 categories of eligibility for Special Education services such as intellectual disabilities, hearing impairment, speech of language impairment, visual impairment, serious emotional disturbance, deaf-blindness, orthopedic impairment, visual impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, a specific learning disability, multiple disabilities and other health impairments.

So, to get to know more about Mrs. Sandlin and what she will be doing here at Phoenix High School, we asked her a bit about herself and what she does. The first question we asked her was “Where are you from”? She said “I worked previously at Scenic Middle School in Central Point”. Then we asked her “What do you do here at Phoenix High School”? She replied with “I am a teacher here in The Learning Center room”.

We hope Mrs. Sandlin the best in getting to know the school and the students. We also hope that she gets a full time job here next year. Have a great second semester everyone!
