Leadership Class is one of the many electives that Phoenix High School has to offer its students. The class is taught by Jessica Flores, who is also a coach, and math and health teacher at our school. In the class there are currently fifteen students, made up of fourteen ladies and one gentleman. The class is designed to help students become better leaders and help improve our school/community.

The class is responsible for all of our assemblies and spirit weeks! So far they have successfully planned our Spirit Kick Off and Homecoming assemblies. They also coordinated the Homecoming Spirit Week, where they planned all the dress up days and the events that took place that week. The class has also hosted a movie night, for which they played When the Game Stands Tall in the big gym. They hope to continue doing movie night once every month in 2016.

To raise money for leadership the students have sold cake pops at football games and hot chocolate for the Day of the Dead Run. Their most successful fundraiser so far has been the Fall Carnival and Haunted House, which brought in about $600. They are currently brainstorming new fundraiser ideas. So far they have come up with selling donuts during break, selling T-shirts at basketball games and selling tamales.

The next assembly will be on Thursday, September 17 right after fourth period. Starting next week on Monday, their second spirit week will kick off. Monday will be a Comfy-Cozy Day, Tuesday will be Favorite Holiday Movie Day, Wednesday will be Twin/Squad day, Thursday will be Ugly Sweater Day, and lastly, Friday will be Holiday Cheer Day. Don’t forget to dress up and earn points that will help your class win spirit day.

Leadership would like to extend an invitation to all the students of PHS to join the Leadership class next semester and/or support them with their fundraiser and activities. Don’t forget to show your school spirit during assemblies and other events. Be sure to show Leadership some love and appreciation for all the fun events they do for our wonderful school. Remember, you are not too cool to show school SPIRIT!
