Are you involved in any CTE classes or want to be next year? Well, today we are going to talk about the CTE programs Phoenix High School offers. First, let’s get an understanding of what CTE programs are. CTE programs are an abbreviation for Career and Technical Education. The purpose for these classes is to get a head start on preparing for college and careers. There is a variety within programs and studies such as Agriculture, Business and Computers, Automotive Technology, Digital Media Studies and Industrial Education.

Some of these programs only fall under freshman classes and some are only for sophomores, juniors and seniors. For freshmen, they can take Agriculture, Business and Computers, Digital Media and Industrial Education. For sophomores, juniors, and seniors, instead of Industrial Education, they can take Automotive Technology and the rest of the classes listed for freshmen.

Phoenix high offers a Agricultural program with classes such as Agriculture Leadership, Introduction to Agriculture: spring and fall focus, Introduction to Greenhouse and Plant Technology, Nursery and Landscape, Small Animal Technology and Veterinary Medicine. Introduction to Agriculture is a semester long class and you can either take it in the spring or in the fall. Both courses explain what agriculture is and why it is important. Introduction to Greenhouse and Plant Technology is also a semester long class but the purpose of this class is to get your hands dirty working in the greenhouse and learning about the plants as you go along. Veterinary Medicine is a semester long class but you have to go through Animal Science to take it. This course explains animal care in an in-depth manner and it will prepare you if you want to go into a career involving human or animal medicine.

PHS also offers another program called Business and Computers. For this program the classes are Introduction to Business, Advanced Computers, Sports Marketing, and Web Page Design. Introduction to Business is a semester long class that teaches you the basics of business and marketing. Advanced Computers is a Semester long class but to take this class you have to have taken Basic Computer Skills. In this class you will dive deeper into computers and learn tips and tricks of computers. Sports Marketing is a semester class as well and in this class students will learn the concepts of marketing in the sports industry. The last class in this list for Business and Computers is Web Page Design. This is another semester class and this class teaches you to create web sites that look good, are easy to navigate, loads in reasonable time and incorporate frames, links, anchors, graphics, buttons, banners, and potentially animation.

Next, PHS offers another program for sophomores, juniors and seniors called “Automotive Technology”. There is different classes of Auto Tech that you can take for beginners and intermediate students. They offer Auto Tech 1 and Auto Tech 2 here at the high school. Instead of Automotive Tech, freshmen can take Industrial Education. Industrial Education pertains things such as Welding 1 and Welding 2. The student will learn or learn more of shop safety and guidelines.

The last Program I am going to talk about is Digital Media classes and Media Arts, there is several classes offered here at PHS that includes media and computers. First, there is Digital Media 1 and 2 then you can either take Filmmaking, PHTV or Digital Journalism but to take these classes you have to complete Digital Media 1 and 2. Digital Media classes 1 and 2 will teach you the basics of making videos and films and it will also teach you the basics of writing articles. The other classes go more in-depth to film, articles, and news. These classes you are treated like an employee and will be expected to complete the task within a deadline and this will teach you what it’s like in a business environment.

These are just some of the classes and programs offered here at the high school. I certainly encourage you to check out the rest if you are interested in any of these careers after graduation.
