The art classes offered here at Phoenix aren’t just for doodling, they’re for learning new, artistic ways to express yourself; to find what style speaks to you. Sure you’ve seen the artwork on display by the office, but have you seen where the artists began? Not everyone starts out able to perfectly draw a portrait or paint a three point perspective. From freshmen to seniors, they’ve made leaps and bounds in their abilities. In those four years, students have learned and refined their take on various techniques and styles of art. The art department here at Phoenix is not only helping those students improve, it’s helping them pursue a passion.

If simply attending a class is that valuable, imagine the benefits of, say, attending one that offered college elective credit. Many have considered the idea, including numerous students. If we can earn credits for college through english and math classes, why not art? Now, those wishes have finally been answered – Phoenix High School is doing exactly that.

Whether you are new to the high school or this is your last year, there is a great opportunity waiting in Ms. Rollins’ art classroom. Starting this next semester, you can officially earn college credits, which isn’t just a great opportunity, it’s free. If you’re looking for an elective, you should definitely consider taking Art I. If you’ve taken Art I already, make sure to take Art Ib as a follow up. After all, any college credit is good, especially if it’s free. In fact, if you stick with art all throughout high school, not only can you qualify for AP art, but you can also earn up to 20 college credits! You can have fun while improving your artistic skill and earn credits, all completely free. In addition to that, the credits can be used for any future degree as an elective credit. So why not sign up?

If you’re worried about starting something new, you have no reason to be. It may feel like you’ll never be as good as some of the other students, but the beautiful thing about art is that there are no wrong answers. It’s simply a way to express yourself in whichever way seems right to you. Even then, there’s always more to learn. The art classes here are meant to help you embrace your creativity and learn how to improve your abilities. It might seem intimidating at first, but the moment you walk in, you’ll be welcomed with open arms into the art family. Everyone there is simply working to grow in art, just as you may be looking to as well. Whether your skill lies in painting or sculpting, or if you haven’t quite discovered it yet, you’ll get to explore all kinds of different things. Beginning to end, Art I to AP art, you’ll always find something new to explore.

What are you waiting for?
